This is a picture of one of our sons hero figurines. Today as I was clearing the dresser I glanced at it and saw the blue rubber band wrapped around his left hand. I smiled. You see for the past four weeks or so my son’s hand was in a blue cast. I wrote about the incident here. So when I walked past this min-Spiderman figurine and saw his exact hand wrapped in a blue rubberband like the cast my son had I could not help but smile.
Play is how kids make sense of the world yall. There are so many deep things that kids reveal when they play. They use play to process difficult situations and even find an emotional outlet for times when words fail them. I love figurines as toys for this reason. I have shared about my love-hate relationship with battery operated toys before. There is just a way that electronic toys hinder a piece of kids imaginative play as it seems as though all you need to do is press a button and the toy does all the thinking, talking etc etc. I am team figurine toys! There are times I pass my son so immersed in this imaginary world with his little friends and I just whistle and carry-on, The less interruption the better!
