varied experiences in the early years

I remember growing up my dads favorite line was, “Lets go for a ride.” In no time my mum siblings and I would pile into our little red car and off we would go. We would drive all over the place – seeing places and experiencing things that I am forever grateful for. I remember in my college years dating a guy and asking him, ” Can we just drive around?” (Of course that was the child in me seeking connection and experience lol) and his response was, “I aint burning gas just to “drive around” – suffice to say that relationship did not last lol.

Looking back now it is not lost on me what these early experiences and travel meant for me as an adult. Especially in todays digitally saturated world varied experiences offline are so important when it is so easy to spend many childhood hours online.

These experiences opened my eyes to how small I am in the grand scheme of things. Showed me that people are more than just a single story. They showed me that there is so much more on the other side of the horizon if I dared to jump. And jump I have been doing most of adulthood – moving to the US at 19 and later to Canada with our small family. I am always wanting to see things. meet people, try new foods and oh what a gift for our kids if we are able to give them the gift of varied experiences while they are younger.

“The world is too round to sit at one corner….”
